Stories Latest Stories "Growing up, life in our home revolved around Feba." How long have you been volunteering with Feba for? I’ve been volunteering for Feba since 2013 when I became a Trustee for nine years. I joined the Volunteer Speaker programme when it began in 2021 and earlier this year I rejoined the Board for a second stint. Why is Feba important to you? Growing up, life in our home revolved around Feba. My father (pictured) co-founded the mission in 1959, so its always been there in the background. It was my parents' life, so in a way I want to support what Feba does today as a tribute to them. Radio and the internet is such a vital way of communicating with people in parts of the world where there’s little or no access to the good news of Jesus Christ, so I’m passionate about the ministry and it still thrills me to hear about listeners whose lives have been changed by listening to the programmes. If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go and why? I’d love to travel to Bangaluru (formerly Bangalore) and New Delhi to visit Feba's partner that works there. Having heard so much about their work since I was a little girl, it would be nostalgic and moving to see it first hand. Feba’s first missionaries, Malcolm and Maureen Fidge, went out to Bangaluru in April 1964 so Malcolm could establish a studio there to provide programmes in Indian languages for FEBC’s shortwave service from Manila, and later for the station in Seychelles. Today, the work in India continues to produce all kinds of programmes and podcasts in Indian languages and English, for radio and the internet, to inspire and bring comfort to millions of people every day. Can you tell us about a significant moment on your volunteering journey? It’s always rewarding when you visit a church to speak about Feba and sense people are inspired by what you say and catch the vision! I get excited when they sign up to pray and support the work afterwards. What do you like to do when you are not volunteering for Feba? I work as the Administrator at my church three days a week, but in my spare time I enjoy trips to the Continent, watching films, playing tennis and learning French in fits and starts. What is one of your favourite Bible verses and why? Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God and I will trust him. Psalm 91 v 1-2 I clung to Psalm 91 back in 2019 when, after feeling unwell for several months, I was diagnosed with kidney cancer and had surgery to remove my left kidney. Although successful, almost a year later a CT scan showed a tiny nodule in my lung, which was thought to be malignant and removed successfully. I still have routine scans every 6 month to check the cancer has not returned. Going through this whole experience has been a tremendous ordeal and very humbling – you realise how precious and fragile life is and what really matters. It changes everything and makes you ask the question – with the time I’ve got left, what am I going to do with my life?
