Stories Latest Stories Making disciples in Mozambique In this former Portuguese colony, station manager Farida and her team work in the port city of Pemba. The effects of the civil war which ravaged the country until 1992 are still evident, but there are signs of Kingdom growth thanks to Radio Wimbe’s hard work and remarkable faith. Farida, Radio Wimbe's station manager Gospel shoots There are four largely unreached people groups in Pemba and the surrounding area, most of them Muslim. Radio Wimbe broadcasts all day, with programmes in each of the group’s heart languages, lovingly nurturing their listeners. Alongside the radio programmes the team are also passionate about discipling listeners, and have seen the Lord working in amazing ways through the interactive Discovery Bible Study (DBS) method. They use audio Bibles so that everyone can hear God’s word in their language. Growing in community Community is vitally important for these groups, as everyone learns and grows together. The DBS method aims to reshape participants’ worldviews and helps them along an obedience-based discipleship path, following the ABC model: Ask The group discusses the ups and downs of the week to guide praise and prayer before asking about previous steps of obedience and sharing experiences. Bible Attendees are encouraged to discover scripture for themselves rather than following a more instructive teaching method. They read, reread and retell Bible passages to help to consolidate understanding, and use questions to prompt reflections. Commit Having shared together, participants are encouraged to apply their learning by committing to certain actions, and they are invited to share what they have learned with others. Mozambique struggles with the effects of conflict and economic hardship, which has negatively impacted families and social structures. There is a great deal of domestic violence and disaffection, but - praise God - this is starting to reduce as the DBS groups grow and multiply! Faith and love bloom Farida shared two remarkable stories of transformation with us: Three young men in one village were on the ‘wrong road’. One was abusing alcohol while the other two were thieves. They attended a DBS group and changed their behaviour. They now go to church and will soon be baptised. "Another participant beat his wife regularly, but having formed a godly relationship with his DBS group leader, he began to read the Bible. His heart was softened, and he stopped hitting his wife.” A combination of the broadcasts, the Bible study groups, and the gentle nurturing of seekers and new Christians has led to the love of Jesus becoming evident in the community. The study groups foster deep, positive relationships and support which helps to promote sustainable transformation. Since October 2024... 86 new DBS groups have started 969 people have participated 157 people have accepted Christ But the work is not over. Radio Wimbe continues to reach out to thousands of people through broadcasts and the DBS programme. Hearts are being changed, ears being opened, lives being transformed. For those who want to know more about Jesus, the community groups provide a safe, supportive and loving environment in which new believers can blossom. Please pray: For each new believer, that their roots of faith will grow deep and lasting as they explore scripture For blessing and strength for Farida and the Radio Wimbe team as they broadcast programmes and support DBS groups That more people who listen to Radio Wimbe will join DBS groups and encounter God's love and truth Manage Cookie Preferences
