Years of conflict and unrest has left Yemen war-ravaged and poverty-stricken, and for Yemeni citizens life is extremely hard.

Whilst navigating the challenges of living in amongst conflict and unrest, Sara*, a 22-year-old student, was also facing huge turmoil in her personal life.

Grappling with grief

Sara's family had already suffered huge loss after her two brothers who were killed. As key providers for the family, the pain of their grief also came with severe economic hardship as they struggled to make ends meet.

To help, Sara began working at a women’s clothing shop in the capital Sanaa, commuting daily.

However, soon after she started, the shop owner took unauthorized photos of her in the changing room and later used them to blackmail her. When Sara refused his advances, he distributed the photos, which spread and reached her family.

Her father, believing she had brought shame by selling her body for money, intended to kill her. Devastated, Sara fled and sought refuge with a friend, Aisha*, in a different city.

Words of power

When Sara arrived at Aisha’s family home she was desperate to the point of wanting to end her life. Aisha introduced her to a radio programme from The Yemen Project, one of Feba's partners.

As Sara heard about the hope found in Jesus and the possibility of new beginnings her heart began to change.

She reached out to The Yemen Project team, who were able to speak with her, sharing more about the freedom that is only found in Christ. With the team's help, Sara started exploring God's word and what it could mean for her life.

Divine intervention

Only a few weeks later, her father discovered her location and arrived with armed men. While he was approaching, Sara had a powerful vision of Jesus Christ, who appeared to her in a dream and said, “I will protect you. I am your Lord, Jesus Christ. As I protected Abraham, Daniel, and the people of Israel through Esther, I will protect you.”

Upon waking, Sara heard her father’s voice but felt empowered by Christ’s promise. When her father saw her, his anger dissolved, and he asked for forgiveness, embracing her.

Reconciled to her family, Sara is rebuilding her life. She has accepted Christ and is now being discipled by another believer. Praise God!
