Why is Nepal hard to reach?

At a recent prayer meeting we spoke to Vijay, Director at Afno FM in Nepal, to find out why it’s hard to share about Jesus in his home country and why radio is a solution. Have a listen to what he had to share below.

“Nepal has more than 125 different languages and different cultures. It is a landlocked country, it has so many different challenges out there like deep rooted religious and cultural identity. Another thing is social and family pressure. Those who show interest in Christianity may face strong opposition from family in Nepal, and thirdly there is a legal problem and legal challenges. According to Nepal’s constitution and Nepal’s law we are free to practice our own religion but conversion leads to problems. There are common misunderstandings about Christianity in Nepal such as the belief that it is a foreign religion.

I have been involved with Afno FM since its very beginning. The effectiveness and accessibility of radio and its ability to reach places I cannot go, that is my dream actually. I wanted to go everywhere, but I cannot go.”

“We do many different kinds of programmes. Afno FM also intentionally build relationships beyond broadcasting. While radio is the first point of contact, listeners often reach out after programmes and the team responds personally, answering questions and praying with them to encourage and walk alongside them in their faith journey.”
