“I spoke with him over a long period of time, and he opened his heart to me.”
This is a common story for John*, a member of The Yemen Project team, when he speaks to listeners.
In a nation that is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a Christian, sharing the gospel takes time and extreme sensitivity. Across Yemeni society, the ongoing war has left many traumatised and fearful, and with high levels of religious persecution people are afraid to talk or ask about Jesus.
But the hope of the gospel is still being heard.
The Yemen Project are using shortwave radio and social media to broadcast God’s message of life, and life to the full.
“Despite fear and pressure, there remains a deep spiritual hunger,” explains John. “People continue to ask questions and seek encouragement, especially during times of crisis.”
This was the case for Sayyid*, who got in touch with John after hearing The Yemen Project’s broadcasts. Over many conversations, John spent time getting to know Sayyid, until one day he began to share more deeply. Sayyid explained how his life felt meaningless, as if something important was missing. John was able to point him to Jesus.
“We prayed together, sincerely asking Christ to grant him peace and rest. After the prayer, he felt something strange: a calmness and peace he had never experienced before, as if a heavy burden was being lifted from his heart.”
After the conversation Sayyid expressed how, for the first time, he felt a sense of hope.
Mirroring the way God meets us personally through Jesus, with the help of the Holy Spirit John and the team are building relationships with those curious about the gospel across Yemen.
“Trust has become more important than ever,” John shares, “listeners need time, sensitivity, and safe relationships before opening their hearts. We thank the Lord for Sayyid and pray that God will continue to work in his life.”

Through their ministry, would you bring peace where there is conflict, hope where there is despair, life where there is death, and joy where there is grief.
