Lost in the Post?

When Christian follow-up literature ‘goes astray’ for whatever reason, God can still use it to achieve his purposes

Isn’t it frustrating to be expecting something in the mail – to wait and wait, and it doesn’t arrive? This happened to one of our listeners in South Asia who had requested a Gospel (New Testament) from us and, as a colleague reports, “In his next letter, he complained, ‘The Gospel you were sending me, I did not get it.’”

The audience relations’ department wrote back and told the listener not to worry, perhaps a needier person now has the Gospel and they were sending a replacement for the one that had gone missing.

Incredibly, a few days later, our colleague tells us that they received a letter from a postman in the listener’s area, in which he explained:

Impressed by holy book

“Some days ago I got a packet from you. I wanted to deliver it to the addressee, but this packet attracted me and I opened it without knowing what was inside. I was so pleased that it was the Injeel [Gospel]. I started reading it, and I am so impressed by this holy book; as I am reading this holy book it is revealing the truths of Christianity.”

The writer continued: “But I am so apologetic that I opened the packet that you sent for some other person. Please forgive me; I can give the Gospel back to the relevant person.”

Our colleagues were able to reassure the postman, telling him they had already heard from the listener who did not receive the Gospel and had sent him another. “It is good that you have read the Gospel,” they wrote, “but the Gospel teaches that you should do your duties honestly. Ask God for forgiveness – surely we will forgive you.”

Pray for the postman, who has written to us several more times, as he explores the Christian faith and reads God’s Word.
