Anton Meyer remembers a teenager who came to faith through Feba against his parents’ wishes
David, who was about 15 years old, lived in a village in Malawi and came to hear of Christ through our radio broadcasts. He was so interested in what he heard that he went to a local missionary couple and spoke to them about it. They explained what he had been listening to, and led him to Christ.
He went home and told his family that he’d found Christ and they immediately had hard words for him. And, being from another religion, they scolded him for this thing that he’d done, because it was completely contrary to everything he’d been taught and everything he’d been brought up to believe. So he went back to the missionaries and asked, “What do I do now?”
Living the Life
They in turn said to him, “Look, you keep quiet, but live the life of a Christian. Do the things that Christians do; do the things that your heart tells you to do. In other words, pray when you feel the need to pray and if you find the opportunity, read the Bible that we will give you.” He went away and did this and his family thought that all was well.
Having an impact
About six or eight months later, this young man’s mother came to the missionaries and sat down with them and said, “You have spoken to my son David and given him a Bible. He’s been reading this Bible and now I want to know about this Jesus that you’ve introduced him to, because he’s changed from the person he was before. He was a school drop-out and a lazybones like the rest of his brothers who just lie around and do nothing all day. He’s become a model scholar, he has excellent grades and he even has a part-time job. He’s doing extremely well. Neither I nor my husband could affect this change in him, or in any of his brothers or sisters, so I need to meet this Jesus.”
