Ep 23: Radio Wimbe project gathers momentum
Tuesday 12th May, 2009

You are missing some Flash content!

A new FM radio project is gaining traction in the northern parts of Mozambique. A faith goal has been agreed with the partners, the project goals are clear, and some exciting work is ahead of us.

Feba UK's Mark Taylor and Bob Bartz recently spent a week in the coastal and harbour town of Pemba, located in the far north of Mozambique's Cabo Delgado province. Meetings with the local committee formed to apply for an FM licence, local missionaries and Christian workers, resulted in a clear faith goal and specific project goals for the ministry of a new FM station in a region that is home to many hard-to-reach people. Feba and IBRA Media will be major partners in this new project.

Faith Goal for Radio Wimbe

We are trusting to God to do a transforming work, by His Spirit, amongst the families in and around Pemba. As biblical values become practised in their relationships at home and in the community, we trust God for the following impact and change over the next eight years:

1. Many more Pemba residents becoming believers in Jesus with 50% identifying themselves as Christians in the Government census that ocurrs in 2017

2. Many husbands becoming faithful to one wife and the family, with the number of families living this way increasing by 200%

3. The prevalent violence in families as well as incidents of crime and road accidents due to subtance abuse decreasing by 50%

4. The illness resulting from poor lifestyle choices (especially HIV/AIDS) decreasing with noticeable effect

Project Description

Radio Wimbe will be a community FM radio project for the city of Pemba, Mozambique and its surrounding villages, and a collaborative effort of Feba Radio, IBRA Media, a local radio association, and ministry partners in the eastern part of Cabo Delgado province. The project will establish an FM radio station to deliver locally produced content from a Biblical worldview and always in the context of the community. The partners are in agreement with a Faith Goal:

We are trusting God to do a transforming work, by His Spirit, amongst the families in and around Pemba. As biblical values become practised in their relationships at home and in the community, we trust God for significant impact and change in the community, and that Radio Wimbe will become a reliable, consistent FM radio station delivering compelling, informative and influential content to its audience.

Radio Nuru is a partnership project of Feba Radio and Africa Inland Mission (AIM), and is an FM station that will soon broadcast programmes to the Mwane people, in their kiMwane language. They recently received their broadcast licence, and have been granted 106.6 FM as their frequency. The station hopes to deliver programmes to at least 85% of the Mwane people, who mostly live along the coast.

Ep 22: Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail
Tuesday 31st March, 2009

A Five Year Feba Strategic Ministry Plan was publicised at Annual General Meeting held recently. Incoming Board Chairman, John Rogers, briefed us on four major threads of strategy that our new CE and staff are tasked with delivering.

One of these threads (arguably the more important one) is the stratgy that faces our audiences worldwide, who hear the content we produce, and who we hope to lead towards life change through Jesus Christ.

Feba staffers, Jon Hargreaves, Mark Taylor and Peter Parish, each took a few minutes to explain what is meant by 'hard-to-reach people', 'engaging our listeners' and 'producing cutting-edge content'.

If you would like more information about Feba Radio, or have any questions about our Strategic Ministry Plan, please send your email to: info@feba.org.uk.

Ep 21: Let's make a jingle in Uxbridge
Thursday 4th December, 2008

You are missing some Flash content!

An impromptu jingle by INTRA, a gathering of young adults from Waterloo Road Church in Uxbridge, plus a short interview with Fernando Sumenetato Mandawo, a Feba Mozambique staff member. [14:00 mins]

Meeting with INTRA's 30 or so young adults was a great time for Feba UK's Mark & Rose Taylor. We got to show them our Chrysolite suitcase studio, and answer lots of questions they had about Feba's ministry. If you would like a similar event for your young adult group, contact Chris Binstead by email: cbinstead@feba.org.uk

Feba is currently working on a ministry plan and partnership with IBRA to build a local FM station in the town of Pemba, and although these plans are hardly out of the starting block, you can sense the enthusiasm and faith in Fernando’s view of what needs to happen. Pray that the Lord will reward his faith that some large obstacles will not be too big for God.

Feba Mozambique is aiming at establishing three FM stations, in Macomia, Balama, and Pemba, in the next five years. Macomia is well on its way, in a partnership with AIM. The buildings are done, the equipment is on its way, and we are waiting for a radio licence.

The Mwane people are a perfect candidate group to be reached by radio. They are hard to reach in several ways: they are hardened against the gospel, they are remotely located, and there have only been a few converts in more than a decade of missionary activity amongst them.

Music in this episode is, Jesus Joy of Man’s Desiring by Ralph Rousseau Meulenbroeks, which is available at www.magnatune.com. All music played in Casting Hope episodes is 'podsafe'.

Mozambique is the focus in this episode. Development Director for Southern & Central Africa, Bob Bartz, and National Director of FEBA South Africa, Frik Veldman, talk to Mark Taylor about ministry vision for Mozambique.

They also discuss the just completed process of evaluating 47 separate ministry projects in the new 5 year strategic plan.

The revised mission of Feba Mozambique is:

Feba Radio Mozambique is an interdenominational, non-governmental and Christian Organization with the purpose of reaching unreached people in Mozambique by communicating the gospel and the teaching of the word of God through radio content and listener interaction in co-operation with the churches and other Christian partners.

The process of the recent summit in Mozambique included:

  • Establishing a current vision for Feba Mozambique
  • Reviewing all existing projects, checking how well they align with Feba Radio Mozambique's vision, and evaluating how effectively these projects are able to deliver the vision
  • Producing a prioritised list of projects, and
  • Agreeing specific further actions for Feba Mozambique to act upon with urgency

There are seven main threads to Feba Mozambiques 5 year strategy:

  • Listener responses should increase by 10% every year
  • 250 out of every 1000 responses come from non-Christians in 2009, increasing to 750 /1000 by 2013
  • As a result of FRM’s audience engagement, 5% of non-Christian listeners become followers of Jesus in 2009 growing to 10% in 2013
  • Maintaining strategic partnerships with 5 local churches to disciple listeners who choose to follow Christ in 2009, and increasing this to partnerships with 200 churches in 2013
  • Broadcasting in the mother tongue (heart language) of 8 Muslim background communities by 2013
  • Increasing the number of partner community radio stations airing FRM programs from 10 stations in 2009 to 25 stations by 2013
  • Improving our production in the existing 5 languages and increasing our broadcasts to include content in 16 hard-to-reach people groups languages by 2013

The music in this episode is used with permission and is from the CD 'Embrace' by Anup, and the track title is 'Life Glides'. You can find this and much more podsafe music by visiting www.magnatunes.com

Jon Hargreaves chats with Mark Taylor and Jack Stuart about Feba's involvement in responding to the recent floods in north India.

Jack is a Year 11 student at Worthing's St. Andrews High School, and recently spent a week at Feba as part of a work experience scheme organised between the school and Feba.

The two sound clips used in this podcast are recordings of the programmes made for the temporary station set up in the state of Bihar. Transmissions closed on 21 October, and in the few weeks of operation the station received 1807 phone calls and text messages.
