Feba will establish 5 FM community-based radio stations in remote or restricted access areas in Nepal. This is in partnership with Human Development and Community Services (HDCS) who hold the FM licences, and the stations will be located where it oversees a mission hospital.
The production and broadcast of radio programmes locally will address physical health, spiritual and social development issues of individuals and communities.
Radio is by far the most prevalent media technology owned in Nepal, and is a powerful tool for bringing about learning and change. Through the programmes, friendships and trust will be built, and the love of Christ will be demonstrated to all people in the community.
The broadcasts and follow-up is vitally important, as the mission hospitals serve a population widely dispersed across extreme terrain, which makes basic transport and communication very difficult. People walk for days to get to a hospital.
Significant health and development problems include:
• malnutrition
• poor sanitation
• unemployment
• poor agricultural practice
• maternal health care problems
• high rates of mental illness
