Feba’s Community FM Projects bring transformation to communities in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Programme content unique to local communities is broadcast, addressing their needs and issues from a Christian perspective.
Community FM Projects may be set up to help communities:
- in remote locations with little access to other regional media and information
- which do not have ready access to healthcare
- which face social problems (mental illness, abuse) with little or no support
- that have minimal education systems in place
- that are displaced through disaster
- that are fractured due to religious tension Community FM stations build trusted relationships.
They give information on issues such as swine flu, or tackle the stigma of HIV/AIDS through education. Alcohol or domestic abuse problems can be addressed significantly boosting personal and community development.
FM radio provides a platform for humanitarian organisations and local government officials to pass on life-saving information in times of disaster. It also gives listeners the opportunity to ask questions and hold their community leaders accountable. Religious tensions can diminish as FM radio facilitates peaceful dialogue between local faith leaders and greater understanding. This can increase tolerance and reduce violence.
