“God has allowed the skies to open up in the part of Africa where we work. We have reports that the people are very happy because the rains have thoroughly drenched the area over several days. The vast dusty plains have been turned into mud, and dormant seeds of grass have already begun to germinate,” reports the project coordinator working with the People Group ‘A’ in northeastern Africa.

The project coordinator continues on this answer to prayer: “Thanks be to God for this marvellous blessing. As you know from our last email, this rain is entirely unseasonal. Normal rains would be in December and July. Thank you for your faithful prayer.”

Back in October, the project coordinator had reported: “The problem is lack of enough rain (3 or 4 good storms in a row) to grow up the millions of dormant grass seeds. It has not rained any useful amount in two years in this county. Thus there is simply no forage left for the animals. Being nomadic pastoralists, this means nothing is left to sustain the people.” The situation was so dire that they sent out a call for famine relief supplies.

The team have also begun a watering project in the area. “What we are doing is creating a camel watering centre. This is being done because the only surface water in some 1500 square km is a creek containing water with 12.5 times the maximum allowed fluoride levels. This water is poison. We are digging this deep well as a pilot project. We need enough water flow out of it to feed a few thousand camels weekly.”

In early February as they were ready to begin drilling, they learned that they lost the man who was to drill the well. They needed a quick replacement if the project was to finish on time, because the drilling rig was ready to go to the site.

More answered prayer: “We have secured the services of a team of 4 well drillers! Monday we negotiated a deal; Tuesday they examined the drill rig; today they have loaded all they need on a truck; tomorrow we will purchase the last of what’s needed and Friday they will go down to the site. Thank you for praying. God has answered. It has been raining unseasonably and daily up here since Monday.”

The Light of Dawn radio programme continues to go out over short wave throughout the People Group ‘A’ area every day for 30 minutes. These days the team is busy creating features for the new series we call Who is Jesus?. In addition to chronological Bible stories, the features focus on family life and issues related to the care and raising of animals. Pray for those who listen to these programmes that they will apply the lessons to their lives.
