From 1 September (or the sighting of the new moon) Muslims around the world will be celebrating Ramadan for 30 days.

This is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar which they believe was the month in which the Koran began to be revealed to their prophet Mohammed. Many Muslims will not eat anything from sunrise until sunset during Ramadan in the hope that they will learn patience and humility.

Throughout September, we will share how Feba programme presenters are adapting their programming during Ramadan to reach out to people who are praying and seeking spiritual things during this month.

Islam is a prominent faith in the majority of Feba’s listening areas. Our radio programmes seek to communicate peacefully and respectfully with Muslims, dispelling dangerous misconceptions about the Christian faith, building friendships and proclaiming God’s truth in love. Feba programme presenters are adapting their programmes during Ramadan to be especially relevant to this period of time when there is a heightened awareness and consideration of spiritual things.

During Ramadan, Muslims not only fast during the day, they also seek to draw closer to God by praying more, reading the entire Koran, giving to the poor, helping others with good deeds, sharing evening meals and giving gifts to family and friends.

30 Days International provides a prayer guide called 30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World, http://www.30-days.net. This began in 1992 when Christian leaders in the Middle East sensed God’s desire to call as many Christians as possible to pray for the Muslim world during Ramadan.
