An inside look at Feba’s new logo

It’s in with the new in 2010 as we launch our new logo, building on the 50 great years of Feba’s ministry. The design strengthens the Feba brand and creates a strong identity that will take us into the future and promote exciting new activities across the Feba world.

"We wanted something that conveys a sense of Feba’s wide reach but personal connection with listeners, and also that has an inherent sense of the fresh and exciting nature of the work that we do every day in our broadcasting," says Jonathan Frank, Chief Executive.

 

Sam Peckham, New Media Developer, started work on the logo with this brief — to produce a dynamic mark that represents everything Feba is about, bringing in extra colours, an identifiable icon, updating the image of the ministry. The emphasis should be on the dual aspect of both ‘hard-to-reach’ and ‘hope’.

Sam says: “The first challenge in design was how best to picture hard-to-reach, and capture it in a way that inspires and creates a positive image. Mind mapping and sketching was an important process in developing ideas and led to the arc shapes prevalent in the final logo. In using the arcs I wanted to give a sense of achievement, of actually reaching, connecting, as our programmes do across the world every day through radio.

To show this I based the icon in the centre around a person enclosed in broadcast waves, this then became a focus for the arcs. The lower arcs then provide a reflection, closing the loop and representing feedback, change, interaction and the holistic nature of our work.”

With the icon extending outside the circle created by the arcs, the overall shape takes on a more interesting dimension presenting a forward motion, as the arcs trail away to the left. The inner arcs also give an extra depth to the logo and can signify the dual aspect of Feba’s work in both the physical and spiritual needs of our listeners.

 

Regarding the new tag line “life. change. hope.” Jonathan adds: "Plenty of combinations were considered for the words beneath Feba – life, change and hope were three concepts that we feel between them embody much of the heart of Feba’s purpose, taking God’s life-changing hope to hard-to-reach people round the world."
