Even in areas where Christianity is a minority religion, local people recognise the times of special Christian festivals such as Easter. Feba programme producers use this opportunity to explain the importance of Jesus’ death and resurrection addressing listeners’ questions and objections with respect and loving concern. Feba broadcasts programmes daily in Arabic into the Middle East over short wave and FM.
One programme producer says they start airing special programmes from the first day of the Passion Week, presenting relevant segments for every day leading to Good Friday then Easter Sunday, emphasizing what the death of Christ and his resurrection means for Christians. This producer sends an SMS message to all of the listeners wishing them a blessed Easter, stirring up replies from believers and non-believers. Based on their questions or concerns, he works the answers into the programming for the week.
The morning short wave schedule includes four special programmes on the Meaning of Palm Sunday, Celebrating the Death of Christ and two-parts called Real Facts about the Resurrection. The morning block programme producer says: “If listeners ask about the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, we usually list the evidences which prove with no doubts that Jesus was risen from death:
- Prophecies in the Torah predicted the events hundreds of years before their fulfilment.
- Jesus himself announces his death and resurrection.
- The death of Jesus and him having been seen alive afterwards is verified by eye witnesses.
- Mostly hostile historians recorded the life and death of Jesus as historical facts."
“For listeners who object to the thought of Jesus’ crucifixion, we follow the good examples the Bible gives us while talking to people of other religions. We are not to attack them or insult them, but simply to present the Good News, in this case to present the facts about the death of Christ on the cross. Actually, I have to present what I believe in and the listener can examine what I say. I will do so with a spirit of love, which means to discuss matters in a friendly way and prevents us from hurting each other’s feelings.”
Another Middle East area programme producer says: “We plan to let listeners know the importance of Easter. We're going to use vox pop (sound bites) and interviews with clergy people to show how Christians celebrate Easter. On FM we’ll broadcast parts of Easter church services. Our short wave programmes will:
- Present the many aspects of Jesus’ passion through drama and interviews with people who will be answering this question: “What does Easter mean to you?”
- Describe our Easter customs, how Easter is a personal encounter not only a social occasion, and explaining God’s plan of salvation.
- Focus on victory — Christian life without resurrection is devoid from power and victory over the evil one. We’ll tell the Bible story and show how to live a victorious life based on the Lord’s resurrection.
- Broadcast people’s congratulations and best wishes for each other, and show the unique way we celebrate.
