Construction is underway at the new station in Okhaldhunga in eastern Nepal, one of the community FM stations in the CoRIN project (Community Radio Initiative in Nepal).

The land is in a high place overseeing the district and contains a house where the studio and offices are located.

The arrival of the radio tower was delayed by a week due to the narrow mountain roads and deep river valleys, especially when a bridge was out and the tower sections had to be ferried across the river.

Sean MacKenzie (Feba's Development Director for South Asia) called us by mobile to say that the crew arrived over the weekend, that the tower is almost up and they plan to begin test broadcasts on Wednesday night, 28 January.

Vijay (CoRIN Project Co-ordinator) called on Thursday morning to say they were on air for half an hour until the generator quit. They plan to have more test broadcasts every day.

The local radio production team was very excited to see Sean and Vijay since it has been about 9 months (May 2008) since their initial radio production training.
