Rev. Petrus Moolman, long serving National Director of Feba Radio South Africa (FRSA) recently announced his retirement.

After ten years at the helm, Petrus accepted a call to apply his skill as pastoral counsellor with a church in Middelburg, Mphumalanga. After consultation with Feba UK, the FRSA Board of Directors has appointed Rev. Frik Veldman, currently Development Director for Southern and Central Africa, as the acting National Director from 1 August 2008. Feba UK’s Assistant Director Mark Taylor spoke with Petrus and Frik about this transition.

Petrus joined Feba Radio pioneers, Russell and Gill Ashley-Smith, in 1998 as Associate Director, and National Director later in the same year. Petrus spearheaded the growth and maturity of the Feba support-raising office in South Africa, and under his able direction, a first wholly-owned South African office and studio complex rose from the soil to coincide with Feba South Africa’s 10th anniversary celebrations in 2006.

Life is a journey and as such we enquired if Petrus ever thought that his ministry would see him arrive at an organisation called ‘Feba Radio’? “No! Right from the beginning, my ministry had a strong emphasis on pastoral work – this being the reason for higher qualifications in that direction at a late stage of my life. However in retrospect, the route which God took me on, has largely and in many different ways, served as his preparation for me being in the privileged position where I was with Feba Radio and also in what I am about to do in the future.”

What did Petrus consider to be the highlight of his life’s work? “There were several highlights. My appointment with Feba Radio as such has been a highlight because it took my own ministry into a direction which I never suspected it would go. Ultimately it proved to be an extension of a broad vision which God started giving to me in the 10 years prior to my appointment in Feba Radio. Looking back, highlights have all along been the way in which the Lord increasingly blessed the work to a point where we could move into our own building provided by God in a miraculous way and the way in which He continues to ‘surprise’ us with blessings which, every time it happens serves as a confirmation to me that God wants Feba Radio in South Africa and especially in Africa.”
