A powerful and poignant testimony to a listener’s faith through personal tragedy comes from FM Muthyana in Maputo, Mozambique, of 29-year-old Celeste Chopo.
Celeste has been unable to move from her bed for the past 13 years. She was struck by a paralysis that has left her unable to walk and with disability in her arms. Celeste spends the years lying on a bed alone in a small hut.
Doctors, and her family’s witchcraft remedies, are unable to cure her. Celeste passes the days listening to her radio, where she heard Feba’s three-hour daily Christian broadcasts on secular FM Muthyana. Celeste sent a text message to the presenter explaining her plight, and Feba staff undertook the difficult journey to visit her. They share the Gospel as well as pray for and visit listeners who come to the Lord.
FM team recharges family’s batteries
After driving for hours along bumpy roads and needing to climb some way up a mountainside, Feba staff found Celeste and her family. During that visit, and subsequently, they prayed with Celeste and shared testimonies, as well as talking with her family. Feba staff gave Celeste a new radio and fresh batteries. The radio will prove useful for the whole family, who currently follow a Zion sect religion predominant in the area.
Receiving Jesus by radio
In Chitevel, Maputo, where Celeste lives, there is no clean water or electricity. Only able to move with difficulty, the alleviation to Celeste’s suffering is ‘receiving the Lord Jesus by radio.’ A Feba staff member who visited Celeste assists at a Christian mission at Chiteval.
Through Feba’s introduction, we pray the mission is able to help Celeste and her family. A wheelchair enabling Celeste’s family to move her around outside, with hope of taking her down the mountain where she can visit the church, would be of huge benefit.
Please pray with us that by being led to the Lord through the programmes, coming to know Jesus and seeking the Gospel, Celeste may know God’s love and grace and that her long suffering and anguish may be eased.
