Christmas by radio to the hard-to-reach

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… perhaps in the West. Most of the places where Feba and its partners broadcast, Christmas is not a national holiday. In fact many Christians must celebrate this joyous occasion of Jesus Christ’s birth in the privacy of their homes.

Reaching the unreachable in India

Feba India with a local partner recently launched a new radio initiative to an “unreachable” tribal area in southern India. Way of Light is a 15 minute programme on short wave produced exclusively for the Koya, a tribe who are about 80% of the tribal population living in the Dandakaranya forests.

Prayer Points

  • Pray for the programme producers as they develop programmes that they will discuss topics that meet the needs of the Koya living in these remote rural areas.
  • Pray for the radio listeners that they will have the freedom to listen and that they will share the good news with others.
  • Pray for each person who receives a CD that they will be touched by hearing the songs and messages in their own mother tongue and that their lives will be changed for the better.

Japan broadcasts offer comfort and hope

“We are so grateful for those who are praying for us. Will you continue?” says Keiko Yoshizaki, FEBC-Japan field director. “Please pray that God continues to grant me the right words to share with my people during this scary time. Beyond the devastation from the earthquake and tsunami, we are really concerned about atomic power stations.”

Appropriate media - Why radio?

Radio is the main form of communication in many of the countries we broadcast to, especially for people isolated by war, natural disasters or lack of resources. Radio reaches people in countries where political, social or religious barriers make it difficult for individuals to learn about alternative views or ideas—including the Christian faith. In places where oral preference or illiteracy is high, radio speaks to people who cannot read or write.

Serving Pakistan’s communities after the floods

“We are training local people in radio programming, so that the people from the community can own what is being said,” says Hazeen, Feba Pakistan staff member.

Radio broadcasts hope as floods rage on

As the news of the heavy flooding in Pakistan unfolded, Feba Pakistan staff and their partners put together an action plan for response during the crisis, despite disrupted internet access and downed phone lines.

Prayer Points

  • Pray for the distribution of clean water and food, and pray against the spread of disease – it is the very old and the very young that are most at risk.
  • Pray for the provision of shelter as the monsoon season continues into September, then gives way in October to clear skies and cooler nights.
  • Pray for Feba’s radio programmes – initially responding to disaster, and subsequently assisting with information for reconstruction and rehabilitation.
