What’s new in ministry to the Middle East

We’ve all read plenty of news about the chaos in the Middle East. Thankfully Feba’s radio producers are presenting lots of news and interesting stories to encourage their listeners. Feba’s William Mateer also caught up with a former Feba Middle East programme producer at a women’s conference in Ireland.

Reflecting on the legacy of Spotlight

“Now seems a good time to do as the old hymn says – ‘Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done,’ says Mike Procter, one of the founders of Spotlight (Specialised English) programme, who has officially retired from ministry with Feba and HCJB Global this spring. “I thought that I’d give a potted history of our time with Feba. Some readers have prayed for us, some supported us financially, and many have stayed with us throughout.”

How will Shakti better provide for her family?

In many rural communities in the developing world, disease and extreme weather can quickly threaten their livelihoods in farming and raising livestock. Many were isolated with no access to education and government agencies until Feba began broadcasting radio programmes on agriculture and animal husbandry, giving advice and information, and enabling communities to better provide for their own needs.

Update on special flood response in Pakistan

Thank you for raising financial support and for praying for the flood disaster response in Pakistan. Radios are continuing to be distributed, mainly through our partners, and the radio programmes are transitioning to more rehabilitation-oriented topics.

Prayer Points

  • Pray for people who are still awaiting financial support from the government to begin rebuilding their homes and replanting their crops. Pray that they will feel love and support through the flood programming.
  • Pray for the Pashto programme producers that they will be inspired to write topics and collect community feedback, helping build up strong communities.
  • Pray for the Sindhi programme partners who are distributing radios in hard-to-reach areas of Pakistan. Pray that the relationships will grow strong in the community as they listen to programmes together and use the information to rebuild not only their homes but the regular rhythm of life again.

  • Pray for the local programme producers who are creating programmes, often under difficult local conditions. Pray that they can engage with listeners on topics that are meaningful to their lives and community.
  • Thank God for the growing number of believers in our listening areas… and for the discipleship programmes that are on air each week. Pray for the safety of on-the-ground partners who help with delivery of Bibles and visit listeners where possible.

Music ban at Somali radio stations

“Most radio stations in Somalia have stopped playing music, on the orders of Islamist insurgents who say that songs are un-Islamic,” reported the BBC just over a week ago. This certainly reminds us of how stringent and controlling governments are in many hard-to-reach parts of the world.

Prayer Points

  • Pray for God’s provision of funding and staff needed to complete the hymns for use in the programmes and sharing with the community.
  • Pray for those who listen to the programmes in secret, that the word they hear will bring change in their lives.
  • Pray for the Somali people that God will bring peace through Jesus Christ.
