We’ve all read plenty of news about the chaos in the Middle East. Thankfully Feba’s radio producers are presenting lots of news and interesting stories to encourage their listeners. Feba’s William Mateer also caught up with a former Feba Middle East programme producer at a women’s conference in Ireland.

Radio brings equality of opportunity to all
On Saturday 29 January, Aafno FM had a listeners’ poem competition. Project Coordinator Vijay says: “We received 70 poems and 4 persons won prizes. Radios were distributed to the participants and also some villagers.” Thank you for your support of the Send a Radio campaign that funded the local purchase of radios in Nepal. Aafno FM also hosted a live response programme asking listeners for 5 good points and 5 weak points about Aafno FM.
Prayer Points
- Pray for God to strengthen and encourage staff at our Aafno FM radio stations as they live and work in these conditions.
- Pray for listeners as they listen to the programmes that interest them, that the information will be life-changing for them.
- Pray for programme producers who go out into the villages and talk to people, that they will develop programmes that will really impact individuals and the community.

Update on special flood response in Pakistan
Thank you for raising financial support and for praying for the flood disaster response in Pakistan. Radios are continuing to be distributed, mainly through our partners, and the radio programmes are transitioning to more rehabilitation-oriented topics.
Prayer Points
- Pray for people who are still awaiting financial support from the government to begin rebuilding their homes and replanting their crops. Pray that they will feel love and support through the flood programming.
- Pray for the Pashto programme producers that they will be inspired to write topics and collect community feedback, helping build up strong communities.
- Pray for the Sindhi programme partners who are distributing radios in hard-to-reach areas of Pakistan. Pray that the relationships will grow strong in the community as they listen to programmes together and use the information to rebuild not only their homes but the regular rhythm of life again.

On air by mobile phone
“Good things continue to happen in the Bangladesh ministry to rural audiences. It’s so good that technology has brought the mobile phone to the villages of Bangladesh, even if the poorest do not own one yet (though they do call from the village shop). With levels of literacy quite low, the phone does give these oral communicators the opportunity to contact us,” says Ed Larby, Media Consultant.
Prayer Points
- Give thanks and praise for the increased response to the rural Bangla broadcasts.
- Pray for the programme staff as they develop the practical and spiritual topics that will meet the needs of the community.
- Pray for the radio follow-up staff who are often under various pressures as they take phone calls and go out to villages to meet listeners.
- Pray for staff to have God’s wisdom to handle listeners’ questions.

Team cheer for engineers, producers, listeners
Thanks to the special teamwork between engineers (who install and maintain the broadcasting equipment) and producers (who speak the programmes in the local languages), people can listen to life-changing community radio. Let’s look at recent examples in practice in southeast Africa.
Prayer Points
- Praise God and thank him for Graham’s safe travel and for his productive use of time whilst in Beira and Maputo.
- Pray that Feba Mozambique seeks God's wisdom as they discuss ministry strategy and budgeting, including plans for changing the schedule and language priority.
- Pray for good equipment operation in Beira, Maputo and throughout the other FM stations in Mozambique, to withstand the rigours of frequent power fluctuations and faults.
