Dialoguing on how to reach Africa by Radio

“People wanted to know how to better use the Internet as a tool of engagement, and as a means of relating better to a younger, more connected generation,” says Feba’s Mark Taylor, who presented a plenary session, New Media: Hype or Hope? About 100 people joined together for the Africa by Radio Continental Convention, 13-15 September, in Ghana, to network with other media workers and stay informed of trends.

Prayer Points

  • Pray for those who attended this Africa by Radio conference to put what they've learned into practice in their ministries.
  • Pray for Mark and the new media consortium called OneSheep. Feba and HCJB Global are inviting others to join this consortium of like-minded Christian organisations called to and intent on being a part of God’s kingdom by providing new media skills and resources which help touch the unreached with the message and new life of Jesus Christ.

South Sudan: Africa’s newest country

When it separates from North Sudan on 9 July, South Sudan will become the newest country in Africa. As you’ve heard in the news there’s still much instability in the border regions and much uncertainty about the future of both countries. So what does this mean for those ministering there?

Prayer Points

  • Pray for Mekonen to seek God’s wisdom as he coordinates the radio projects. Pray that he, his family and the producers and their families will be safe.
  • Pray that God will guide the programme producers as they can put together radio programmes during this time of transition, meeting the special needs of listeners.
  • Pray for Sudanese Christians that the rights of all Christians, particularly those in northern Sudan, will be respected.
  • Pray that there will be an end to violence throughout Sudan.
  • Pray for church leaders to be led by the Spirit as they exercise their ministries at this time. Pray that the church may stand firm, being salt and light in the land and for God's kingdom to come to these two countries.
  • Pray that the South will receive appropriate assistance to support those displaced from Abyei, Darfur and other areas of conflict.
  • Pray that the governments of Sudan and South Sudan will rule justly for the benefit of all citizens.

Continental Consultation

With almost 100 delegates from 14 countries, the consultation provided a platform for connecting and information-sharing.

Prayer Points

  • Pray that radio stations and organisations in Africa will increasingly partner with each other and co-operate, rather than compete for the ears of listeners.
  • Pray for new stations to emerge in the war-torn areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sierra Leone.
  • Pray for new radio opportunities to emerge soon in Zimbabwe

Broadcasting in exile

A Christian radio ministry in exile broadcasts to the Horn of Africa.

Several years ago radio programme producers facing persecution in their home state fled to a neighbouring country for their own safety.

Prayer Points

  • Pray for listeners in prison and where their Christian faith is persecuted. Pray that they may know God’s presence and his supportive and surrounding love.
  • Pray for the HIV/AIDS programmes that they may continue to reach and comfort those affected by the condition and their families. Also that the wider community may be further educated on these issues.
  • Pray that the Lord protects and gives continuity and enthusiasm to the volunteers assisting the producers.
