Urgent prayer needed for Japan

Please join us in praying for those affected by the tragedy unfolding in Japan. At this time, staff of FEBC-Japan in Tokyo report no injuries, although several of them have been stranded. Gregg Harris, President of FEBC-USA has been in contact with FEBC-Japan field director, Keiko Yoshizaki.

Keiko said: “Thank you so much for your concern and prayer! According to television reports, this is the largest earthquake we’ve ever experienced. Victims and damages are just incredible. My staff is all safe, for which I thank God. I was working at home [when the earthquake hit] and the shake was terrible on the 5th floor of my 13 floor building. I appreciate your continuous prayers, as aftershocks are coming over and over! Ordinary phones and cell phones are not working well because everyone is trying to reach each other. I cannot get in touch with one of my brothers and his wife who may have been on the bullet train at the moment of first earthquake.”

Are we Feba/FEBC doing anything to deploy FIRST Response in Japan?
FEBC does have a ministry in Japan and they are currently exploring the best way to respond. Feba and FEBC are working to build capacity to respond to disasters in countries where we have an 'on-the-ground' presence or strong partnerships. FEBC work in the Far East, and Feba is ministering across South and Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa. This means that FIRST Response only has the capacity to respond in these regions and only if we have the people there. So in the case of this latest disaster, FEBC will take the lead in responding to the emergency situations in Japan.

Prayer and giving
Although it’s too early to know the full extent of the damage, it is not too early to pray for the people of Japan. Sadly, the Japanese people are one of the largest "least-reached" people groups in the world. Of the 127 million who live in this country, less than 1% are born-again believers.

“It is at times like this, that I am so grateful that FEBC can be a voice of hope and a light in the darkness,” says Gregg. “God has given us the tools to speak to people in times of deep need, and we know that the answers are all found in our Lord Jesus Christ.”

As the devastation from this violent earthquake and tsunami continue to unfold, will you join us in praying for this tragic situation? Here are a few things we can start with:

Prayer Points

  • Thank God for protecting FEBC’s staff in Japan.
  • Ask God to help staff to remain safe and be able to contact their loved ones.
  • Ask God to open the hearts of millions of Japanese to their need for his love and salvation.
  • Pray that God will use FEBC's broadcasts to comfort and encourage many during this time of suffering. Many forms of media will be inaccessible, and many will turn to radio!
  • Pray for special programming that FEBC-Japan staff will prepare to help and encourage those who are afflicted.
