Christmas camel and New Year’s radios in Pakistan

”This year God opened some new opportunities for Christmas radio transmission,” says Hazeen with Feba Pakistan. “We have built new relationships with 2 more FM stations and 1 is in the pipeline. So what I have calculated, we have covered approaching a third of the area of Pakistan in the airing of our Christmas programme." They were so excited to be on air this Christmas. Want to know why this camel is decorated?

Feba Pakistan’s pre-recorded half-hour Christmas programme was heard on FM stations in Kashmir and the provinces of Punjab, Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (formerly North West Frontier Province) and Sindh. From a listener: “Your programme is very sweet. I am listening for the first time. Happy Christmas to you and your all team members.” Hazeen explains: “We received 63 messages and some calls. It was a wonderful experience for new friends doing a Christmas programme. By the Grace of God everything went well. Thanks for the prayers.”

In view of unrest locally in connection with the blasphemy law, it was felt unwise to proceed with the planned live transmission from one station in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa - instead a pre-recoded programme was aired.

Hazeen explains why the camel was decorated: “Actually we had a Christmas picnic and went to a lake where these guys were giving rides on a camel and a horse to visitors. I myself found it interesting because white camels do not seem to get into this place; this is a special breed.”

At Christmas Feba Pakistan staff also made a live broadcast from a station in Islamabad, the capital, which was relayed to other stations in the network.

Pakistan relief camp work continues in New Year

Last week, Feba Pakistan staff travelled together with Amos, our ZKS Zindagi Kay Sung (Along with Life) programme partner, to a flood relief camp in Punjab Province to help distribute relief packs to families there.

Working with a local aid agency at the camp during this one-day visit, they distributed radios (100 funded by Feba and a further 80 funded by our partner) to over 200 family groups. They also distributed blankets and clothing, and took medics with them, dispensing medicines to over 300 individuals.
