Did you know that Sunday 26 September is Back to Church Sunday in the UK? Last year Back to Church Sunday welcomed 82,000 people across the UK to church services. With the “Come as You Are” theme, people are encouraged to ask their friends or neighbours: ‘Will you come to church with me on Sunday?’ When invited by someone they know, most people say: ‘Yes.’ Meanwhile Feba programmes literally bring “church” into people’s homes — those in Africa, Asia and the Middle East who are unable to attend church openly.
Many of Feba’s listeners have a very different concept of what church means. Perhaps they have no church building, because a public gathering can draw unwanted attention. Other Christian minorities may attend a state-approved church, but police have to stand guard to protect them. Others are ostracised by family and community for their faith in Jesus.
As you invite a friend to come along with you on Back to Church Sunday, please consider joining Feba in prayer and financial support of radio programmes for believers who meet together in places where it is hard to live out their faith.
Going to church at home
For years Feba has broadcast Church in My Home (known there as Fellowship of Believers) in Urdu to Pakistan. The programme presenters use local cultural style in their drama, discussions and music to have a worship service on-air. This encourages new believers who may be isolated from other believers and equips them with Bible teaching that they can share in small home groups.
In September and October these are some of the discussion topics planned: - Fullness of Holy Spirit - Fellowship and sharing - Faith - Story of blind beggar
Shamaun, Audience Relations Coordinator at Feba Pakistan, says: “All this year we announce a question at the end of the programme, derived from the teaching of the current programme. This change has increased the letter response.”
What listeners have to say
Here are some comments from listeners to the Fellowship of Believers programme:
- “I am a keen listener of this wonderful teaching programme. The church pastor teaches very practical topics of Christian life. We try to act upon the lesson. No doubt it is my favourite programme.”
- “I always try to listen to this programme regularly. The topic of the last programme “The Church” was very interesting. This programme has the uniqueness that the participant discusses one topic thoroughly in a programme. I remember you in my daily prayer.”
- “Although I am an old listener of Feba Radio but this is my first letter. When I listen to the programme, I feel spiritual comfort. This is a very blessed programme; the style of presentation is very attractive and interesting.”
